Transhumanism and Human's Desire for Immortality

Transhumanism and Human's Desire for Immortality:

Human's desire for immortality has taken place in various mythologies, religions and philosophical thoughts throughout history. However, transhumanism aims to realize this desire through scientific and technological methods. In this context, methods such as transferring human consciousness to the digital environment (mind uploading), stopping biological aging and renewing organs are being studied.
The desire for immortality is a fundamental aspect of human nature. Throughout history, people have sought ways to beat death, from ancient myths to modern medical advances. By exploiting this desire, transhumanism offers a potential solution to the problem of death.

History of Transhumanism:

The concept of transhumanism was coined by philosopher and futurist FM-2030 (formerly Fereidoun M. esfandiary) dates back to the 1960s, when he wrote about the potential of technology to enhance human capabilities. However, the modern transhumanism movement gained momentum in the 1990s with the publication of books such as Ray Kurzweil's "The Age of Spiritual Machines" and Vernor Vinge's "The Singularity is Near."

Basic Principles of Transhumanism:

Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement that aims to improve human physical and cognitive abilities through science and technology, and is a philosophical movement that aims to overcome human biological and cognitive limitations.
Transhumanism advocates that humans live a longer and healthier life by exceeding their current biological limits. In this context, goals such as treating diseases, stopping aging and even eliminating death are at the forefront. Transhumanists propose using innovations in fields such as biotechnology, genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology to achieve these goals.

Basic Concepts:

Life Extension: Transhumanists aim to extend human lifespan through a variety of methods, such as cryonics, senolytics, and calorie restriction.

Mind Uploading: It is the idea of uploading human consciousness into a digital environment such as a computer or robot in order to achieve immortality.

Brain-Computer Interfaces:
Developing interfaces that allow people to control machines with their thoughts, potentially enabling the merging of humans and machines.

Artificial General Intelligence: Creating intelligent machines that can surpass human intelligence, potentially leading to the singularity.

Psychological and Philosophical Consequences:

Fear of Death: Fear of death is the primary motivation for transhumanist pursuits. By achieving immortality, people can overcome this fear and live without the burden of mortality.

Identity and Self: Transhumanism raises questions and solutions about the nature of identity and self. If people can transfer their consciousness into a digital environment, it can be transferred into long-lived bodies.

Ethical Considerations: Transhumanists raise ethical concerns, such as the potential for unequal access to life-extending technologies and the impact on human relations and society.

Ethical and Philosophical Debates:

The innovations brought by transhumanism have brought about many ethical and philosophical discussions. Issues such as changing human nature, increasing biological inequalities and misuse of technology are among the criticized aspects of transhumanism. Additionally, the idea of humans breaking away from their essence and becoming a "Robo-sapiens" is criticized by some thinkers and considered contrary to human nature.

Solution :

Transhumanism and the human desire for immortality are interconnected concepts that aim to improve human abilities and achieve immortality through science and technology. While transhumanism raises psychological, philosophical and ethical questions, it also offers a potential solution to the problem of death that has been disturbing people for centuries.

The Ultimate Goal of Transhumanism:

Transhumanism, realizing man's desire for immortality; By combining humans with machines or transferring human consciousness to a digital environment, we can achieve immortality or at least provide people with a long lifespan and a post-human form of existenceaims to deliver. In order to achieve these, it tries to improve human physical and mental abilities by using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, biotechnology and robotics.

Transhumanism and Posthumanism; It can be seen as an important step towards making man's desire for immortality a reality.
Because the desire for immortality is a fundamental aspect of human nature and directs transhumanist pursuits and futuristic movements.
Human efforts to overcome biological and cognitive limits will create new opportunities for humanity in the future to create a more livable world and to establish colonies on different planets.
